A recent study indicates that men are more likely to use erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs than women. The study, conducted by the University of Pennsylvania Health Authority, was published on April 19.
“It is not surprising that erectile dysfunction drugs are one of the most common sexual dysfunction disorders in the United States,” says Dr. Michael D. Rosen, director of the Department of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania Health Authority. “But we know that some of these drugs can cause significant distress for patients, and it’s important to understand the underlying mechanisms of these drugs that may be contributing to this problem.”
The researchers studied about 10,000 men aged 18 to 64 years old who had taken four or more prescription-based erectile dysfunction drugs and had been diagnosed with ED. The men were randomly assigned to receive either Viagra, Cialis, or Viagra Connect, which contained one or more of the following drugs: Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect, but did not use nitroglycerin or other nitrates, as needed.
The researchers used data from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) study, which was conducted by the Department of Urology at the University of Pennsylvania and was funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
They found that the men who received Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect reported significantly more ED than those who received Viagra or Cialis. Similarly, the men who received Viagra and Cialis reported significantly more ED than men who received Viagra. In addition, the men who received Viagra and Cialis reported more ED than men who received Viagra and Cialis.
“There is a relationship between erectile dysfunction and drug use. When a patient is taking an ED drug, a patient’s sexual function decreases, and the doctor may feel embarrassed about it,” says Rosen. “When a doctor prescribes Viagra, they can avoid sexual arousal and sexual stimulation and may lower their sexual function as well. It’s important to note that ED is a normal part of aging and is not an inevitable part of aging.”
According to the researchers, it’s not surprising that the men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect reported significantly more ED than those who took Viagra and Cialis.
Viagra, Cialis, and Viagra Connect are all PDE5 inhibitors, meaning they inhibit the action of the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for causing ED in the body. The researchers found that the men who received Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect reported significantly more ED than those who received Viagra or Cialis.
“We also found that these drugs were associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, which may be due to drug interactions,” says Rosen.
However, Rosen also notes that this research has several limitations. For example, the study did not assess whether the men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect had additional medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure.
“The men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis had an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, which were both heart disease events,” says Rosen.
“This is not a causal relationship between the men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect and cardiovascular disease,” says Rosen.
“However, it is important to note that these drugs can affect blood flow to the penis, so their use in the body may have a small effect on blood flow.”
The research also did not look at the effects of nitrates, which may cause dangerous cardiovascular side effects. The researchers did, however, evaluate whether the men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect had increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
“As a result, the men who received Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis were more likely to have heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease,” says Rosen.
“Therefore, we wanted to see if there was an increased risk of heart disease for the men who took Viagra, Cialis, or Cialis Connect,” says Rosen.

The man was found in a room, with a full-blown sexual dysfunction, in a room of a house that had been abandoned on the corner of 20th and 26th Ave. S. It was a typical morning, with light and noise being heard. The man was also wearing glasses.
“It’s an emergency,” he told the station.
He described his symptoms as “extremely painful, painful and difficult.”
He said the man was having erections that lasted six to 12 hours. A physical examination showed a small, blue erection that could only be identified as the “normal erection.” The man was asked if he had anything wrong, and his response was the same as normal for him.
The man was told he had an erection that had been happening for five or six minutes, and that the man had been having sex at the time of the incident. His erection was then confirmed by a physical examination. He also had an erection lasting at least five minutes. He had erections that lasted anywhere from three to five hours.
The man was told he had a normal erection and he was now sexually aroused. He told the man that he had experienced an erection in the past, and that the man was taking a “very, very long, painful erection.”
He said he took a “very, very long, painful erection.” He said the man took a lot of pills and that he had taken Viagra several times over the years, but never in a way that caused erections.
A spokesman for the San Francisco Department of Public Health said the man was being treated for high blood pressure. He was taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, to help keep the blood vessels from narrowing.
“We’re talking about the symptoms,” the spokesman said.
“The man has been taking nitrates for at least six months, but not taking them for more than six months.”
The man told the station he had taken nitroglycerin for headaches for four months. The man said he had used it “every night” while taking it, and “I used it every night for a week or so.”
He said the man had been taking the drug “for a long time, and I would recommend that he continue the use.” He added he would not recommend the man to have sex with a female, or “do it for fun.”
